SARS provides specialist volunteer responders to assist the East of England Ambulance Service at the scenes of serious medical emergencies or trauma.
The clinical resource consists of a network of solo responders and mobile critical care teams who can respond to incidents across Suffolk and its adjacent counties.
SARS relies on voluntary donations to support its charitable activity.
The SARS team has seen another substantial increase in activity over the last
year with over 100 more mobilisations in 2024 compared to the
previous year. The total call out number of 629 was the third highest since
the charity was set up in 1972. Clinicians provided over 9000 hours
of volunteer on call hours.
The team established 3 new solo responders towards the end of 2024 who
have already been mobilised to over 30 serious medical emergencies
between them.
A Tudwick Foundation grant helped support set up costs including
equipment bags and specialist splints to help patients who have
suffered serious fractures.
